I live in Los Angeles, so for me this time of year is Awards Season, when every week brings a new awards show. In theory, this means fun telecasts and gawking at celebrity fashions. In practice it means road closures, traffic snarls, and work shutting down in an infuriating way for friends and family who work in the industry.
But there is a much more important and fulfilling type of awards being announced at this time of year too. The kind that doesn’t mess with traffic, people’s livelihoods, or involve conspicuous consumption. It’s the time when the Newbery and Caldecott Awards are announced.
And the winners are:
Moon over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead, illustrated by Erin E. Stead
